Goal Progress and Lifecycle

Understanding the Goal Lifecycle

When creating a goal, the first step is to scope it. This looks like "I want to do ABC by XYZ time." Once you've set a goal, the idea is to track progress to see if you will achieve ABC by XYZ. Finally, once you reach XYZ time, it's worth assessing whether you've hit your goal or missed it and then understanding why so that you can grow and set new goals.

We've captured this flow in TeamMaven. The first step is to create a goal. This is how you set the scope of the goal inside TeamMaven. You can modify the goal or metrics if you need to change that scope.

Updating Goal Progress

Once you've scoped and created a goal in TeamMaven, you can update its progress periodically to track how you're doing and to update your manager and team (depending on privacy settings).

You can do this by browsing your goals and clicking on one goal. Once you're on the details screen for that goal, click on the update progress button.

This will open a drawer that will allow you to update the progress for each goal metric and the status of the overall goal.

You can use the slider to adjust your progress towards the target for each goal metric. In addition, you can use the buttons below the slider to set the goal as On Track, At Risk or Off Track. This will cause the percentage indicator for that metric to be green, amber or red, respectively. This allows you to flag the health of a goal for yourself or your manager.

Finally, you can mark the goal as complete or abandon it by using the dropdown for "Goal is" near the bottom of the form. Setting a goal as complete or abandoned will prevent future modifications or updates for this goal.

When ready, click the Update Progress button to finish the update.

Archiving a Goal

Once a goal is marked complete, you should discuss it with your manager, or it might be included in a future performance review. For this reason, it will still be visible in your goals dashboard but shown as complete.

Once you have finished discussing or reviewing the goal, you can click the archive button to hide the goal from your dashboard.
